Having swum in the wonderful calm of a Sunday sea for too long this morning I think my nerve endings were a little numb and it probably wasn't the best time to prepare mussels. I've never had a mussel injury before and this was very painful, but it's unlikely to hold me back in the way that a muscle injury would!

The dish was a success though: mussels with leeks, bacon and Aspalls cider and a dash of blood.
